A newly filed class action takes aim at Target Corporation over its Market Pantry Original Coffee Creamer, a 35.3-ounce powdered product labeled to contain 'about 500 servings' based on a stated equivalency of one teaspoon per 2 grams. According to the complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, independent lab testing tells a different story: the product allegedly falls short by at least 13.31% of the promised one-teaspoon servings, and the teaspoon-to-gram conversion on the label is itself allegedly wrong. The upshot, the plaintiff claims, is that a canister actually yields only around 417 to 434 servings — some 66 to 83 fewer than what's advertised. The suit accuses Target of violating New York's consumer protection statute (General Business Law) and breaching express warranties made to buyers. The plaintiff is seeking a jury trial and damages on behalf of the proposed class.
