Shein Reference Price Discount Lawsuit

A proposed class action filed May 5, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California accuses Shein of running a widespread fake-discount scheme on its branded products. According to the complaint, Shein displayed inflated 'reference prices' as the supposed regular cost of items, even though those prices didn't reflect what the products actually sold for recently — and, the suit claims, Shein rarely if ever sold the items at that full reference price, including in the six months before the sale. Plaintiffs argue this pricing tactic tricked customers into believing they were getting genuine bargains, when in reality they were paying more than the merchandise was worth, generating billions in revenue for the company. The lawsuit asserts violations of several California consumer protection statutes: the False Advertising Law, the Unfair Competition Law, and the Consumers Legal Remedies Act.
